Online dating - it's a challenge. If
you've ever tried it you know how frustrating
it can be. Perhaps you've tried more than one
dating site, match.com, singlesnet.com, or
eharmony. They promise (or not) that you will
meet the love of your life. You believe it.
You're ready.
Many of you are like me. You married in your
20's and thought that that was it. You found
your perfect match and you settled down with
the love of your life. You thought you would
live happily ever after. Then something
happened. Life happened. Financial pressures,
growing pains, children, and careers got in the
mix. Life got hard and with it came
divorce.
After the divorce you focused on your
career. You became a professional, working long
hours to get ahead, to make a future and a
reputation for yourself. Perhaps you became an
executive with a large corporation, or decided
to go your own way and become an entrepreneur.
You had a vision and you started your own
business. You became your own boss and built
the business of your dreams. You worked hard
and you sacrificed, and one day you woke up to
discover that you are alone, divorced, single
and over 30. Perhaps you're over 40 or even
single over 50. And now you want to find that
partner to grow old with, to settle down and
spend the rest of your life. You want romance
and true love. You need someone your own age,
mature, and you don't want to play games. You
want a serious relationship. You deserve a
serious relationship. But where do you
look?
Your friends tell you that online dating is
the answer.
Maybe first you try the chat rooms, but you
can never trust who is there. Does anyone tell
the truth in those things? You decide to go
through one of those online dating services -
you fill out endless questionnaires and sort of
tell the truth. Perhaps you put up a picture
that's 5 years old or maybe even 10 and you
don't think you've changed since then. You
write your weight down as the weight on your
driver's license, the same weight you've been
putting down for thirty years. Only you've
probably gained a few (or more) pounds since
then. But maybe no one will notice.
And you wonder why when you meet someone
through the online dating services that the
people don't look like their pictures. They are
older, have less hair, weigh more and seem to
have a whole lot more baggage than before.
